First Theme Post: TMNT

Hey All,

The idea of little themed posts got some great feedback so I’m going to try to do them at least once every two weeks. This is the first so I thought we’d start with a very lighthearted and fun and yes, a little silly theme. So.. how many of you saw TMNT and thought ANTM (America’s Next Top Model)? Well, we can explore that later.

How many of you saw TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and knew exactly what it was and thought I was crazy? Yeah me too, a little. But there is a way to do it and be totally classy. Seriously.

The thing is to keep it simple and, IMHO, more in the reception than the ceremony itself. In this case I would go 4 attendants on each side. Men in black or grey and women in forest green. On each side, assign each one of the following colors: Red (Raphael), Orange (Michelangelo), Purple (Donatello), and Blue (Leonardo). With this comes the fun little twist that carries the theme but stays classy and elegant. Put female attendants in sashes and shoes of this color, men can have pocket squares, ties, etc. Bouquets and boutonnieres featuring these colors is also a plus.

Moving onto decor: Simple and easy. If you go with tablecloths, use the same forest green. If not, use that color for the napkins. Divide tables by four, assign the colors and use for centerpieces (doesn’t have to be floral either).

And Dessert: Sweets table. Especially good if kids are invited (and if they are, have TMNT coloring pages and activities too). Cake pops and cookies that have that special flair are great. Some examples (but keep in mind I am not a baker or a photographer, I just wanted some of my own pics for this blog):

Raphael in m&ms

Michelangelo needing a little help with his bandana. There are green sprinkles but they don’t show up well…..

Leonardo.

Donatello. I wish I was a better photographer so you could see how perfect the purple actually came out.

Sing it with me “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Heroes on the half-shell. Turtle power!”

Bonus: Attendants gifts can be fun gear or jewelry with charms or etchings such as nunchucks, katana, etc.

The biggest thing is to keep it simple and you. If it ever feels too much, it probably is. You want to be comfortable. It also helps to have someone, say I don’t know a planner, to help you organize any theme that is complicated.

Before I go, I wanted to let you all know that there are now galleries as part of my site. Enjoy and let me know what you think!

Lots of Love,

Sarah Joy McKenzie

These are great ideas about how to subtly weave the TMNT theme into a wedding – I especially like the colors and the focus on four! By the way, the turtle sweets above are adorable!!!

Bonus: maybe have a pizza late-night snack for everyone? 🙂

I LOOOOVED the ninja turtles too! You guys look great. Michelangelo was aylaws my favorite as well. He seemed to be the funny, sweet one On a side note, my Aunt took me to see the real live action TMNT movie and I repeated a bad word in it and got in big trouble .It was the first time I ever said a bad word. Oh, by big trouble I mean my mom very sweetly said uh, oh that’s not a very nice word to say Amy and I cried a lot. I was a sensitive child I guess. Thanks for taking me back!!P.S. Im sorta jealous of Micheal’s PJs I would have loved to have those. I did have batman ones though so I should be grateful for that.
